The Psychopath Will See You Now
Here's one out of left field...
Let's imagine you and I run an Italian restaurant together.
[Yeah I know... but stick with me - serious point here.]
On Day 1, we split the tasks up.
Because you could charm the birds down from the trees, your task is to rustle up customers.
And you're incredibly good at it...
Morning, noon and night, you send a constant stream of eager customers over to our restaurant.
But here's the thing...
I'm 'front of house', dealing with the customers when they come in.
And (unlike in reality, I promise!) I'm a totally deranged, snarling psychopath.
Speaking in tongues... babbling incoherently... head rotating... projectile vomiting fountains of green bile....
It's enough to put anyone off their pesto.
And it does.
You may be an absolute genius at getting customers in the door...
But that’s about as far as they get...
Yes: the customer experience AT THE DOOR is so terrifying, baffling, and downright lousy...
...that they never actually BUY any pizza, pasta, or anything else.
Frightened and confused, they run for the exit.
Starting to see where this is going?
It's a metaphor for The Traffic Myth.
The Traffic Myth is seductive.

Well, it WON'T be OK!
In fact it will NEVER be OK...
