WTF is TMI?

BTW (by the way).

OMG (oh my God).

ROFL (rolling on the floor laughing).

They're some of the more comprehensible abbreviations beloved of the social media generation.

But while you shouldn't need these too much in your online marketing...

...there's one you'd do well to remember when it comes to your website.

TMI.

Used when a friend reveals a bit too much about their weird sex life or latest trip to the loo...

...it's a classic response to "too much information".

And it could apply equally to your homepage… which typically is the highest traffic page you’ve got.

Many businesses try to pack every single thing they do on their homepage.

And when you have to include the obligatory risk warnings, that's often a LOT of information.

But it backfires horribly because it's a recipe for confusion and paralysis on the part of your visitors.

You made their head hurt...

So they take the easy option:

And leave.

Which isn't very "lolz" for you.

So instead of trying to cram everything in...

...concentrate instead on the 2 or 3 really important 'conversions' that your site needs to generate for you to succeed.

And focus your homepage on them ruthlessly.

Not sure what these are, or how to get them across in a clear, convincing way?
